All about Navratri 2024- Period of divine light and blessings

Shardiya Navratri will be celebrated from 3rd october to 12th october. This is one of the sacred and divine festival of Hindus. It is dedicated to worship nine major form of goddess Durga and symbolises victory of good over evil. It is believed that goddess descends to earth during Navratri and fight with demons and evil.

Significance of Navratri

Navratri symbolises and highlight divine feminine aspect the most. It has cultural as well as spiritual significance. It commemorates the victory of goddess Durga over cruel demon Mahishasura.

Each day of Navratri is associated with specific form (Devi) of goddess Durga.

  1. Shailaputri– Represents the daughter of mountains and symbolising strength and stability.
  2. Brahmacharini– Brahmacharini is the second form of Devi represents penance and purity.
  3. Chandraghanta– Chandraghanta form symbolises courage, power and ability to fight against evil.
  4. Kushmanda– Represents the yoni and cosmic egg and source of all creation.
  5. Sakandmata– She is the mother of kartikeya and represents motherhood.
  6. Katayayni– She is known for her fierce nature and represented as warrior goddess.
  7. Kaalratri– Goddess of fear and destruction. Protector of good and destroyer of evil.
  8. Mahagauri– Symbolises purity and wisdom.
  9. Siddhidatri– Represents accomplishment and fulfilment of desires.

Rituals during Navratri

Many Denotees will observed fasting during this sacred period. Daily worship ceremonies, including rituals and offerings to the goddess. Devotional songs sung in praise of the goddess during the evening prayers. Garba, a traditional dance form characterized by circular movements, often performed in large groups.
